i just survived my first earthquake!

so after 11 months living in california, i finally felt an earthquake. it wasn't huge or anything, but it was enough for me to notice something interesting going on. it did take me a few seconds to realize what it was. as i stood in the kitchen and noticed the things on top of the fridge wobbling around about to fall off, my first thought was "is the washing machine on?" you see, we have this not-so-new washing machine that tends to get off balance when spinning the water out. we also live in a very old, small house on a not-so-solid foundation. so usually when the washing machine is on, we have our own little mini earthquake until we run in the back room to readjust the clothes and make it stop. luckily i noticed this time that there were indeed no clothes being washed and i had 3 others in the house to confirm that it was in fact an actual earthquake. i don't know yet the magnitude or location of origin (actually, i just found out), but i can gladly confirm that i and my belongings are still intact. we are still just waiting for the big one to hit...you know, the one that makes california separate from the rest of north america.
